What is financial coaching, and why should I bother?
Coaching is:
Partnership: It is a partnership between a trained coach and a client, focused on the client's development.
Goal-oriented: The process is designed to help clients reach specific objectives, which can range from workplace improvements to personal ambitions.
Client-driven: Coaches help clients find their own answers and solutions rather than dictating them. The client is seen as the expert on their own life.
Skill development: Coaching involves developing the skills and behaviors necessary to achieve goals.
Method: It relies on techniques like powerful questioning, active listening, and providing feedback to help clients gain clarity, self-awareness, and a path forward.
Financial coaching is a new but rapidly growing area that focuses on achieving financial freedom. It combines coaching and mentoring to help you unpick any issues you have with money management, often stemming from your upbringing, alongside financial education. I can help you:
- Understand what money actually is, and how to control it
- Understand your own attitude to money
- Grasp the key concepts of personal finance, and how these can make you rich or make you poor.
Importantly, I do not provide financial advice. This is regulated by the FCA, which limits what can be shared.
You may wish to get financial advice if:
- You're close to retirement and have a substantial pension/investments
- You wish to minimize tax
Financial advice is now very expensive due to the amount of regulation, making it out of reach for many who could benefit from it. I can work with you to understand the key concepts of personal finance; for example, what types of investments are available, along with their pros and cons. It's then up to you what you do with that information, however, you will be armed with the knowledge you need to make informed decisions.
Crucially, I am totally independent. Banks aren't; they make their profits from you being in debt.
